The stratigraphical distribution of the Late Paleozoic marine fauna and megaflora is examined with respect to the available biostratigraphic framework for part of the Upper Paleozoic sequence of the Paraná Basin, Brazil (Tubarão Group) possibly spanning the Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian interval. Within this interval the megaflora succession shows a transition from assemblages with incidence of northern forms to others in which the Glossopterids are more frequent and finally predominate. The invertebrate megafauna (mollusks and brachiopods) succession shows a high frequency of cosmopolitan forms associated with Gondwanic forms in the early assemblages, followed later by more typical gondwanic faunal assemblages. The evidence at hand for the correlation of the studied sequence with the Caroniferous-Permian boundary is discussed.O presente trabalho inclue uma análise de distribuição e composição da megaflora e mega-fauna marinha (moluscos e braquiópodes) do Grupo Tubarão j tendo em vista o arcabouço bioestratigráfico (palinológico) disponível para o Paleozóico Superior da Bacia do Paraná, Brasil. A sequência estratigráfica examinada abrange, possivelmente, o intervalo Neocarbonífero-Eopermiano.

A new species of Hippeastrum Herb. (Amaryllidaceae) from the department of Amazonas, Peru, is described and illustrated here. Hippeastrum peruvianum Meerow & Campos-Rocha features floral morphology unique among the other species of the genus occurring in the country. It has similarities with H. miniatum (Ruiz & Pav.) Herb. and H. reginae (L.) Herb. but is distinguished readily by its larger flowers, distinct coloration pattern, and trifid stigma. The new species is known only from the type collection by Paul C. Hutchison in 1958. It was determined as H. miniatum in error and has apparently been widely cultivated, especially in California, either under that name or erroneously considered a hybrid. We additionally observe that H. ugentii Ochoa, described from Peru and later transferred to Crinum L., is the naturalized South African species C. moorei Hook. f.2727580sem informaçãoqu ́ıse describe e ilustra una nueva espe-cie deHippeastrumHerb.

Stingless bees are distributed widely in the tropics, where they are major pollinators of several plant spe- cies. In this study, the karyotype of Melipona quinquefasciata Lepeletier, 1836 was analysed, with emphasis on the presence of B chromosomes. Post-defecating larvae were analysed using Giemsa staining, the C- banding technique, sequential staining with fluorochromes, and FISH. The chromosome number ranged from 2n = 18 to 22 (females) and from n = 9 to 13 (males) due to the presence of 0–4 B chromosomes. This result demonstrates that M. quinquefasciata has the same chromosomal number as other Melipona Illiger, 1806 species. Considering the A complement, heterochromatin was located only in the pericentro- meric region of pair 1. Staining with chromomycin A 3 (CMA 3 ) and labelling with rDNA probe, indicated that this region corresponded to the nucleolus organising region. The B chromosomes of M. quinquefas- ciata could be found in individuals from different localities, they were completely heterochromatic (C- banding) and uniformly stained by 4’,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI). Variations in the number of B chromosomes were detected between cells of the same individual, between individuals of the same colony, and between colonies from different localities

Background: Police officers'' high-stress levels and its deleterious consequences are raising awareness to an epidemic of mental health problems and quality of life (QoL) impairment. There is a growing evidence that mindfulness-based interventions are efficacious to promote mental health and well-being among high-stress occupations. Methods: The POLICE study is a multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) with three assessment points (baseline, post-intervention, and 6-month follow-up) where police officers were randomized to mindfulness-based health promotion (MBHP) (n = 88) or a waiting list (n = 82). This article focuses on QoL, depression and anxiety symptoms, and religiosity outcomes. Mechanisms of change and MBHP feasibility were evaluated. Results: Significant group × time interaction was found for QoL, depression and anxiety symptoms, and non-organizational religiosity. Between-group analysis showed that MBHP group exhibited greater improvements in QoL, and depression and anxiety symptoms at both post-intervention (QoL d = 0.69 to 1.01; depression d = 0.97; anxiety d = 0.73) and 6-month follow-up (QoL d = 0.41 to 0.74; depression d = 0.60; anxiety d = 0.51), in addition to increasing non-organizational religiosity at post-intervention (d = 0.31). Changes on self-compassion mediated the relationship between group and pre-to-post changes for all QoL domains and facets. Group effect on QoL overall health facet at post-intervention was moderated by mindfulness trait and spirituality changes. Conclusion: MBHP is feasible and efficacious to improve QoL, and depression and anxiety symptoms among Brazilian officers. Results were maintained after 6 months. MBHP increased non-organizational religiosity, although the effect was not sustained 6 months later. To our knowledge, this is the first mindfulness-based intervention RCT to empirically demonstrate these effects among police officers. Self-compassion, mindfulness trait, and spirituality mechanisms of change are examined. Clinical Trial Registration: www.ClinicalTrials.gov. identifier: NCT03114605.

The staff burnout expression created for Freudenberger. He described a syndrome consisting of exhaustion, disappointment and isolation of health workers. The Burnout Syndrome (BS) recognized as an occupational hazard for professions that involved caring for health, education and human services, due to wear psychosocial. The study’s aim was a crossover design in order to determine the prevalence of BS in medical students of Facimed. Two questionnaires conducted by a sociodemographic issues, academic, and psychosocial and with validated version in Portuguese of the MBI-SS (Maslasch Burnout Inventary-Student Survey). The medical Facimed’s students surveyed of the periods 2 to 8, excluding those who are at boarding school, totaling 176 participants. Were identified 16 (9.1%) students with BS: 4 in the 2º period, 6 in the 4º period, 5 in the 6º period and 1 in the 8º period. In the analysis that combines the two questionnaires was inferred that friendship/social life and cultural activity more closely related to the manifestation of the BS during the school period, with p = 0.008 and p = 0.02 respectively. Thus, we conclude that those who negatively assess their interpersonal relationships and those who do not practice cultural activity were more likely to have burnout and a significant prevalence in the study group compared to literature

Objectives: Physical growth and body adiposity patterns provide relevant information to infer the nutritional and health status of students. Our objectives were (a) to compare the variables of body adiposity and physical growth of Chilean children and adolescents with data from the CDC-2012 and international studies, and (b) to develop regional reference curves to evaluate growth and body adiposity. Methods: 8,261 children and adolescents were studied. We evaluated the weight, height, and waist circumference (WC). The Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. Their physical growth and body adiposity were compared with the CDC-2012 references as well as with other international references. Percentile curves for weight, height, BMI, and WC were constructed with the LMS method. Results: The Chilean students showed reduced weight and height during adolescence when compared with the CDC-2012 reference. During early ages, the BMI for the Chilean sample was lower while at advanced ages, the WC values were greater in comparison to the CDC-2012 reference. Graphic comparisons with international studies indicated that Chilean students weighed more at all ages. However, height was slightly greater until age 14 for males and age 11 for females. Body adiposity (BMI and WC) for the Chilean students was slightly higher at early ages while at later ages, adiposity values were relatively similar for both sexes. Conclusions: Discrepancies were observed between the physical growth and body adiposity trajectories and the American CDC-2012 references and the international studies. The proposed percentiles for weight, height, BMI, and WC for each age and sex may be useful for health sciences professionals and researchers7sem informaçãosem informaçãoThis work was supported by the National Commission of Science and Technology, CONICYT, Chile under Grant [number 1141295], and MEC Project 8018003
